A-Z of Maid of Honor Speeches – Q is for Quote

Posted by: bestweddingspeeches on: May 24, 2009

Q is for Quotes. Why not include a quotation from a song, movie, poem or famous speech in your maid of honor speech? A quote can serve as a great introduction or add punch to the closing of your speech. It can be poignant or funny. It may be specifically related to friendship, love, marriage or one of the bride’s specific personality traits.

I have given just a small sample of quotes that you might use below. You can find more helpful quotes at Maid of Honor Toasts and Maid of Honor Sister Speeches

A friend is someone who knows the song in your heart, and can sing it back to you when you have forgotten the words. Donna Roberts

My best friend is the one who brings out the best in me. Henry Ford

A sister smiles when one tells one’s stories – for she knows where the decoration has been added. Chris Montaigne

You can kid the world but not your sister. Charlotte Gray

Having a sister is like having a best friend you can’t get rid of. You know whatever you do, they’ll still be there. Amy Li

A-Z of Maid of Honor Speeches – P

Posted by: bestweddingspeeches on: December 18, 2008

P is for practice. I know I’ve been known to use the ‘P’ word more than once but I’m going to do it again – practice, practice, practice!!!!

You need to say your maid of honor speech aloud (before the wedding day!!) You need to eliminate any tongue twisters or phrases that are just not working. Ideally, get some feedback from someone close. The more you practice, the more confidence you will have!

A-Z of Maid of Honor Speeches – O

Posted by: bestweddingspeeches on: December 16, 2008

O is for organise. Organise your maid of honor speech well in advance. You need to plan what you are going to say, write it down, practice it, rewrite it….  Get my drift?

Please organise your time and begin preparing your maid of honor speech as far in advance of  the wedding as you can, as you will be busy with your other maid of honor duties as the wedding approaches. Also be organised about structuring your speech as the best maid of honor speeches flow naturally  from the  beginning through to the  middle and the end.

A-Z of Maid of Honor Speeches – N

Posted by: bestweddingspeeches on: December 12, 2008

N is for normal. Please speak in your normal register of language. This is not a competition about how many long words you can include or if you can mimic Shakespeare! Use words you are comfortable with. Also, use your normal voice. Please don’t go for the “plum in your mouth” posh voice that you think will give a better impression. You will sound best if you are comfortable, so be yourself. Be the person that the bride chose to be her maid of honor!

Maid of Honor Speeches: 5 Reasons to Relax about Your Maid of Honor Speech

Posted by: bestweddingspeeches on: December 11, 2008

As maid of honor, you may be feeling a little stressed out (or even terrified!) about giving your maid of honor speech. Don’t let nerves come between you and the delivery of a speech that will warm the heart of your best friend! Relax, put your feet up and read on!

  1. The bride has chosen you as her maid of honor. She loves you! She is not expecting, hell she doesn’t even want, Julia Roberts or Joan Rivers to give the maid of honor speech. She wants you!
  2. You have known the bride for a long time now. You have all the content you need and then some! You are not giving a speech about nuclear physics this is about your friend! When you think about it you have more material than you could possible fit into your maid of honor speech.
  3. You will know a lot of people at the wedding. They will be supporting  you all the way. They are ready to jump to their feet to give you a standing ovation!
  4. This is a wedding day, a celebration. Your audience have just watched their loved ones getting married. They are in a good mood. They are a receptive audience!
  5. The maid of honor speech is only about 3-5 minutes long. It is a tiny amount of time and you don’t have to worry about going under or over time (the orchestra won’t interrupt you!). You can do this!

Most of all if you relax and enjoy it, your audience will enjoy it too! (Ps. Now its time for your champagne!)

A-Z of Maid of Honor Speeches – M

Posted by: bestweddingspeeches on: December 10, 2008

M is for mirror. Yes, mirror! This is the mirror that you are going to practice your maid of honor speech in front of! Speak aloud and practice your hand gestures. Look yourself in the eye as if you were looking into the eyes of your audience. By seeing yourself deliver your speech as other people will, you can modify your gestures until you are comfortable. The more you practice, the more confident you will be as you deliver your maid of honor speech on the day! Your mirror will help – promise!!

Maid of Honor: Why Not Give the Bride a Free Gift!

Posted by: bestweddingspeeches on: December 9, 2008

I know you will want to give the bride and groom a fantastic gift (more about that in future posts!) but how about starting with something free and fabulous! The Wedding Lens allows you to create a customized online wedding album for the bride and groom. It is a great place to collect the captured memories of all your friends that were at the wedding. The album is also shareable! (Maybe just take care to include photographs from earlier rather than later in the day/night!!!)

Maid of Honor Duties – Wedding Day Duties

Posted by: bestweddingspeeches on: December 8, 2008

On the day of your best friend or sister’s wedding, you will have many maid of honor duties to fulfil. You are going to have a great day and you are also going to make sure the bride has the very special day she has always dreamed of! In this post, I have outlined some of your duties and will give you more information in future posts.

  1. The most important maid of honor duty on the wedding day is to play a role that she is well practiced in – that of the bride’s best friend or sister. As maid of honor, you will protect the bride when she needs some peace and quiet away from the madding crowd, support her before and during the ceremony if she is nervous, and help to ensure she enjoys all aspects of her wedding day. Laughing is the best stress cure and I know you know how to make the bride laugh!
  2. You are the maid of honor. The leader of the bridesmaids. You are responsible to ensure that the bridesmaids are glam slam, on time and have everything they should have including their bouquets.
  3. The maid of honor also gets to have a small glimpse into the life of a Hollywood stylist! You will help arrange to the bride’s veil and train before the processional, hold her bouquet during the ceremony, help maintain her stunning gown during the wedding day and help her change into her honeymoon outfit. You will also take care of any little items that the bride may need such as touching up her make up or a little lip gloss before her photographs. The maid of honor will also ensure that the wedding gown and accessories are cared for when the bride has gone on her honeymoon.
  4. Your maid of honor duties also include taking care of valuable items, so it is time for your role as the most stylish security detail ever seen! You will take care of the ring the bride is going to present to the groom during the ceremony and ensure that any gift envelopes are collected and secured in a safe before the dancing begins.
  5. The maid of honor will act as witness to the marriage and sign the wedding registry, so get ready to give your autograph!
  6. Now it’s time for your meeter and greeter hat! You will be part of the receiving line, standing next to the groom after the ceremony and together with the bridesmaids you will greet and mingle with the guests as they arrive at the reception.
  7. Now for your big moment. You are about to give a performance deserved of an oscar – your maid of honor toast . You will ususally give your toast after the best man. Relax there are lots of hints and tips for your speech on this site!
  8. Now put on your dancing shoes. If you’re single, I hope your first dance partner of the evening, the best man, is devilishly handsome! If not there are always the groomsmen!

Maid of honor duties encompass many roles on a wedding day but the most importat role of all is to ensure the bride enjoys her very special day. Since this is exactly what you want for your friend, I believe that many of the maid of honor duties described above will simply come naturally to you. I hope you enjoy your maid of honor experience!

A-Z of Maid of Honor Speeches – L

Posted by: bestweddingspeeches on: December 8, 2008

L is for likeability. The bride really likes you already. In fact she probably loves you to bits. For those who don’t know you remember to smile. Relax as you deliver your maid of honor speech. I know you may be screaming at your screen that that is easier said than done but just bear in mind that you are not being asked to address a conference of rocket scientists!

If you enjoy giving your maid of honor speech (or at least appear to!) your audience will enjoy it too!
